This is the debark anon! We finally got access to his medical records, and turns out he was *not* actually debarked at all, just super quiet. He’s warmed up to the other puppies really well even in the short time and has already started making a bit more noise than he did. Thank you for your advice and support!! It was super helpful!

Do you or any of your followers have advice for communicating with a dog that has been debarked? We just inherited a debarked Maltese from a dying relative, and I’ve never had a dog that has had that surgery before. I have two papillons that have not been debarked, and I’m used to dogs that are very vocal. The Maltese, however, seems very timid and obviously quiet. How do I know how he’s feeling or if he’s upset or hurt?

I’m sorry for your loss anon. I have never owned a debarked dog so please take my advice with a grain of salt! Hopefully our followers can give you some hands-on experience. First off, it’s going to take some time…
