It’s great to be careful, but I don’t think you need to worry. As long as you aren’t feeding him too much at once, and he isn’t drinking excessively before playing. Dogs with deep chests like Dobermans, Standard Poodles, Great Danes, and even Basset Hounds are at risk because they have enough room for their stomachs to completely flip over. A mini aussie doesn’t have that great of risk, but all dogs can get food bloat from eating too much to fast, and all dogs should wait at least 15 minutes after eating before doing any heavy play.
I have a seven year old Miniature Australian Shepherd I’ve had him since 12 weeks of age and he always becomes super excited after eating. He twirls, runs around the house, wiggles his bum, barks and runs to his toy box to give me a toy to throw. My only concern is, is it okay to play with him after he eats. I never have him over exert himself but I worry about bloat and stomach cramps. Is there anything you suggest or recommend. My dog and I would be very grateful😀
