Congrats on your new addition! I once knew a basset hound named Finnigan and I loved him!
Okay so I’ve never had a basset hound and all of the following info comes from Google, so I’m sure you already know it:
They are pretty reliably good-natured, happy dogs.
They are hounds, so they will likely not be reliable off-leash. Consider a scent-based sport (tracking, nosework) to help him use his doggy brain in a way he loves.
They are likely to bay when bored.
They are likely to be harder to motivate, but are apparently super food-oriented! Beware of them getting super fat.
They apparently are likely to do all the gross dog things: drool, snore, fart, and have a distinct “houndish” odor
The breed has some chronic health problems (like all breeds!), but hopefully you’re getting your pup from a breeder who has done the testing to minimize the risk there.
Again, congrats on your pup. Send in some pictures once you get him!
